Catalyst Center is the continuing development of the platform previously known as DNA Center for central Cisco network management and analysis. Supported devices, capabilities and deployment formats depend on release and licensing. We verify the combination against your estate. Network devices retain their configuration; the design defines which responsibilities move to the platform.
Plug and Play can onboard supported devices using prepared site data, images and configuration. Reachability, controller discovery and certificates must be suitable. Installation, power and cabling remain local tasks. We test the complete workflow in a pilot and distinguish successful provisioning from subsequent functional acceptance.
Assurance brings supported telemetry and events into device, client and other views, helping teams investigate incidents. What a view can establish depends on its sources, data age and configuration. We build diagnostic procedures and notification rules around those observations. A correlation or health score is not a conclusively verified cause.
Catalyst Center is strong for Catalyst infrastructure — it is not a universal tool for every device in the building, and it does not replace a source of truth. In grown environments NetBox remains the inventory, and existing automation keeps its place through the platform's REST API: Catalyst Center owns onboarding, software waves and assurance, your pipelines keep authority over the intended configuration. We plan this division of labour explicitly — so two automations never fight each other.

Catalyst Center succeeds the product name DNA Center. Historical names remain in documentation and API paths. This does not imply identical capabilities or upgrade support across all releases: the actual migration path must be checked.
No. SD-Access is an option, not a prerequisite. Catalyst Center delivers value in a classic network right away: plug-and-play rollouts, consistent software levels, compliance visibility and assurance. Fabric architectures are a possible second step — once network and processes are ready for them.
We check deployment formats supported by the selected release against your resources, scale and operating requirements. Equipment, virtualisation or cloud costs, availability and recovery inform the decision.
Required features, device families and software determine the licensing assessment. Existing Cisco DNA or Catalyst entitlements and other dependencies are recorded. Platform provisioning, infrastructure and additional products are considered separately; costs and entitlements are confirmed in the proposal.
No — it complements it. The proven division of labour: NetBox stays the source of truth, your pipelines render the intended configuration, Catalyst Center owns device onboarding, software waves and assurance. Its documented REST API connects both worlds instead of creating parallel structures.
Prime Infrastructure was mostly monitoring and inventory; Catalyst Center is an operations platform: it does not just watch, it rolls out, checks compliance and correlates incidents. The migration is a project with clear steps — assessment, parallel operation, moving function by function — not a switch you flip.
The first milestone is agreed after reviewing prerequisites. A bounded pilot can show early whether the chosen workflow is useful. Procurement, access, certificates, inventory remediation and maintenance windows can affect timing.
