Cisco Catalyst Center / SWIM & lifecycle
SWIM & lifecycle.Software maintenance needs more than a date.
We organise software maintenance for the managed device estate and the Catalyst Center platform. Target versions, prerequisites, sequence and acceptance are agreed before the maintenance window.
Scope of service
What you receive.
Suitable for inconsistent software versions, deferred updates and unclear ownership between platform and network operations. We distinguish device updates through Software Image Management from updates to the management platform itself. Each has different dependencies and recovery options. The first step is an accurate inventory with justified target versions, not upgrading everything to the newest download.
A justified version strategy
Device families, required features, support status and known limitations are assessed together. Target versions and approved exceptions are documented and checked against platform compatibility.
Preparation before restarting
Image assignment, distribution and available readiness checks are verified. Storage, reachability and other device-specific prerequisites inform the go/no-go decision.
Controlled update waves
Pilots, sequencing and maintenance windows reflect impact and redundancy. Distribution and activation remain separate; failed prechecks are investigated rather than routinely bypassed.
Evidence for ongoing operation
Version, reachability and agreed network functions are confirmed after updating. Results, deviations and the next maintenance decision enter the lifecycle record.
The delivery path
Three controlled steps.
- 01
Establish inventory and targets
Collect versions, dependencies and maintenance needs. Agree responsibilities for devices, the platform and applications.
- 02
Check the pilot and recovery
Assess the target image and supported path on representative equipment. Prepare backup, restart and recovery options appropriate to the change.
- 03
Maintain and accept
Work through approved waves, complete post-change checks and resolve outstanding decisions before returning to normal operation.
What we agree before starting
A readiness check does not replace application testing. Hitless upgrades, ISSU and downgrades are not universally available and must be checked per platform and path. Vendor recommendations inform the version decision; they do not automatically approve an update for your estate.
Good to know
Your questions. Clear answers.
Are platform and device updates the same project?
Not necessarily. We assess dependencies together but scope implementation and testing separately. A platform update may be required first without immediately updating every managed device.
Does a golden image fit every device?
No. A target version must match the device family, required features and approvals. Different requirements are maintained as justified exceptions.
Can maintenance happen outside business hours?
A suitable window is agreed. Team availability, escalation and any local tasks are part of that plan, not an automatic promise of round-the-clock service.
Let’s discuss your requirements
A few details are enough to begin.
You do not need a finished design. We establish the need, boundaries and a dependable next step.
